Despite hearing many bad reviews over the years I have been a loyal customer of Scotland Ash Garage in West Hagbourne, Oxfordshire for over two decades. All that ended today.
On May 29th Scotlands Ash did an MOT inspection on my 2017 Kia Sorrento. I was out of the country at the time. When I returned I found that the boot liner had been thrown into the body of the car, distributing mud and dirt onto every surface. The removable parcel shelf had been thrown onto the back seat and damaged the leather upholstery. The worst however is that the inspector recorded the mileage of the vehicle as 46,000 miles instead of the actual 28,000. I discovered this when I tried to renew the insurance.
I brought my car with me when I returned to this country from overseas. The steering wheel is on the left side and the odometer is very clearly marked as recording in Kilometers.
I called the owner of Scotlands Ash garage, Mr. Peter Welch. I know that he has problems attracting and retaining staff in his garage. I thought that he would appreciate some feedback in order to maintain standards. I was amazed when he confirmed that he had conducted the inspection personally and filed the incorrect paperwork. I was astonished when he blamed me for the mistake. He claimed that I should have warned him that the odometer recorded in Kilometers. When I pointed out that the units were labelled and that the steering wheel on the left should have been sufficient indication he said that he didn’t appreciate smart-arsed comments like that. In the meantime I am left with a car which is either very devalued on paper or is uninsurable.
I shall never return to this garage again and neither will any of my friends of family.
I wish I had heeded the all bad reviews I had heard over the years. I recommend that you avoid Scotlands Ash Garage.
